Published system requirements tell you whether software will launch. They do not tell you whether it will hold up on a Sunday morning with two outputs, a stage display and a 4K background loop. This guide covers both: the official minimums, and the specification that experienced teams actually buy.

Three things matter far more than the operating system version:
Performance is driven by the number of pixels the machine renders and outputs. One 1080p audience screen is easy. A 4K audience screen plus a 1080p stage display plus a streaming output is a different machine entirely.
Playback problems are usually a codec issue, not a hardware failure. H.264 or H.265 at sensible bitrates behaves well. Very high bitrate exports, unusual codecs and clips with alpha channels in the wrong format cause dropped frames on hardware that is otherwise fine.
Media on a network share, an external USB drive or a spinning disk will stutter regardless of CPU. Keep the library on internal SSD storage.
Apple silicon machines handle a single 4K output comfortably. The practical limit is usually how many external displays the chip supports: base chips drive fewer screens than Pro or Max variants, so check the display support of the specific model before assuming you can run audience, stage and confidence monitors from one laptop. Additional hardware is sometimes needed to get past those limits.
On Windows the graphics card matters more than on a Mac, because you are choosing it yourself. A dedicated GPU with adequate VRAM and current drivers is worth prioritising over a marginally faster CPU. Avoid running the presentation machine as a general-purpose office PC; background sync tools and antivirus scans cause exactly the kind of intermittent stutter that is impossible to diagnose under pressure.
The software is free to download and will run unlicensed with a watermark, which is enough to benchmark your own content on your own hardware. Load a real service: your actual videos, your actual screen resolutions, both outputs live. Watch for dropped frames during transitions, which is where weak systems fail first.
Buy for the room you will have in three years, not the one you have today. Screens get bigger and media gets heavier, and a machine bought with headroom is cheaper than one replaced early.
