What is ProPresenter

Presentation software built for live rooms, not boardrooms

ProPresenter is live production software from Renewed Vision for macOS and Windows. Where a normal slide deck plays in a straight line, ProPresenter assumes the running order will change: a speaker skips a passage, a song adds a chorus, an announcement is cut for time. The operator sees one view, the audience sees another, and nothing that happens on the control screen ever reaches the projector.

  • Song lyrics, scripture, sermon slides and video handled in one application
  • Separate outputs for the audience screen, the stage display and streaming
  • Used by church, school, conference and broadcast teams worldwide
  • Free to download and learn; trial and subscription options come from Renewed Vision

Features

What ProPresenter actually does on a Sunday morning

The feature list is long, but these are the six things teams rely on every week once the room fills up.

Multi-screen output

Send different content to the audience screen, the stage display and lobby or overflow monitors at the same time, each with its own resolution and layout.

Song lyrics and slides

Build lyric slides once, reuse them across services, and adjust arrangement, font and background on the fly without breaking the flow of a set.

Video and audio playback

Play backgrounds, bumpers, countdowns and announcement loops with fades and transitions, with audio routed to your sound system separately from system audio.

Bible and scripture lookup

Search a passage, send it live and step through verses while the speaker is talking, without leaving the presentation view or losing your place in the set.

Streaming and NDI output

Feed a clean or keyed output to your switcher, encoder or capture card so lower thirds and lyrics reach the online audience as well as the room.

Layered slide composition

Stack background, media, text and masks on one slide so a single click changes everything the room sees, instead of cueing three tools at once.

How it works

Four steps from download to a rehearsed service

Nothing here is complicated, but skipping a step is how teams end up troubleshooting during a service instead of before it.

1

Check your machine

Compare your operating system, RAM, storage and GPU against the current requirements before you download anything.

2

Download the installer

Take the macOS or Windows build straight from the official Renewed Vision download page so the file is signed and current.

3

Install and grant access

Run the installer, then allow the screen, files and audio permissions your system asks for on first launch.

4

Configure your screens

Set your audience and stage outputs, import media, build one test playlist and rehearse before the room is full.

Compatibility

ProPresenter system requirements at a glance

Requirements move with each release. Treat these as the practical baseline and confirm the current figures on the vendor site before you buy hardware.

macOS

Intel and Apple silicon
  • Minimum OSmacOS 13.5 Ventura
  • Recommended OSmacOS 15 or newer
  • ProcessorApple silicon M1 or newer
  • Memory16 GB for multi-screen work
  • StorageSSD with room for media
  • OutputBuilt-in display plus one or more external screens

Windows

64-bit only
  • Minimum OSWindows 10 version 1903, 64-bit
  • Recommended OSWindows 11, current build
  • ProcessorIntel Core i7 / i9 or AMD equivalent
  • Memory16 GB for multi-screen work
  • GraphicsDedicated GPU, 8 GB VRAM for 4K
  • StorageSSD with room for media

Worth knowing: ProPresenter needs an internet connection to install, register and update, but not to run. The number of pixels you output, the resolution of your media and the codec you use affect performance far more than the version number of your operating system. Full detail is in our system requirements guide.

Use cases

Who runs ProPresenter every week

The software started in worship production, but the same multi-screen workflow suits any room where the running order changes live.

Worship

Sunday services

Lyrics, scripture, sermon points and countdowns handled by a volunteer operator with a clear stage display for the band and speaker.

Education

Schools and campuses

Assemblies, award ceremonies and open days where the same slides need to reach a hall screen and an overflow room at once.

Events

Conferences

Session titles, speaker lower thirds, timers and sponsor loops driven from one machine across main stage and breakout screens.

Broadcast

Streaming teams

A keyed output feeding a switcher so online viewers get lyrics and graphics without a second graphics operator.

Venues

Sports and community halls

Announcement loops, scoreboards on secondary displays and quick text changes between fixtures or community events.

Training

Rehearsal and onboarding

New volunteers learn the workflow on an unlicensed copy at home, then step onto a licensed production machine already knowing the layout.

Installation

Installing ProPresenter without surprises

Five steps, in order. The permissions step in the middle is the one people skip, and it is the reason stage display or screen capture appears broken later.

  1. Confirm your operating system

On macOS open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. On Windows press Windows + Pause or open Settings, then System, then About. Compare the result with the compatibility table above.

  2. Download the correct build

Choose the macOS or the Windows installer on the official download page. Downloading the wrong platform build is the single most common cause of a failed first install.

  3. Run the installer

On Windows run the .exe and follow the prompts. On macOS open the .dmg and drag ProPresenter into Applications. Do not launch the app until the copy finishes.

  4. Approve system permissions

First launch asks for screen recording, files and folders and sometimes microphone or camera access. Approving these is what makes screen capture, stage display and media playback work.

  5. Set up screens and rehearse

Assign your audience and stage outputs, import a few songs and clips, then run a full rehearsal on the real hardware before a live service.

Safety notice: where you download matters

Presentation machines usually sit on the same network as sound desks, cameras and streaming encoders, which makes them a poor place to take risks with unknown software.

  • Use the vendor site only. Signed installers from Renewed Vision are the only builds that receive official updates and support.
  • Avoid cracked or patched copies. Modified installers are a common malware vector and will fail during a service when they cannot validate.
  • Check the file after downloading. A truncated or unusually small installer means the download failed. Delete it and start again.
  • Keep a backup of your library. Copy the support folder that holds playlists, themes and media before any update or reinstall.
  • Never update on service day. Install updates midweek so there is time to test hardware and plugins.
Pros and cons

An honest look before you commit

ProPresenter is not the only option, and it is not free for live use. Here is the trade-off as teams usually describe it.

Strengths

  • Genuinely reliable multi-screen and stage display handling
  • Fast live control when the running order changes mid-service
  • Strong scripture, lyric and media workflow in one application
  • Large user community, so most questions already have answers
  • Free to install and learn before any money changes hands

Limitations

  • Licensing costs are significant for small volunteer teams
  • Media-heavy services need capable, well specified hardware
  • The interface takes a few rehearsals to feel natural
  • Some Bible translations carry an extra licensing cost
  • New purchases use monthly or annual subscriptions; legacy perpetual licences follow different rules
Release information

Which ProPresenter release should you run?

Exact build numbers change often, so this table describes the release tracks rather than a version string that dates within weeks.

ReleasePlatformStatusWhat it means for you
Current release linemacOS and WindowsCurrentUse the latest stable build published by Renewed Vision for new installations. The active line is 21.x as of August 2026.
ProPresenter 7–16macOS and WindowsLegacyOlder generations kept for compatibility with existing workflows. They are not the release line new users should choose.
ProPresenter 6macOS and WindowsLegacyEnd-of-life software for older systems. Plan migration rather than treating it as a current supported baseline.
Beta buildsOpt inTestingPre-release builds are for testing. Avoid changing the production machine immediately before a live event.

Check the version history on the vendor download page for the exact current build number and its release notes.

Troubleshooting

Four problems that account for most support questions

If something is wrong minutes before a service, start here. Longer walkthroughs live in our common errors guide.

Installer will not open

Symptom
The download finished but nothing happens, or your system blocks the file.

Fix
Re-download from the official page, check that the file size looks complete, and allow the app in Windows SmartScreen or macOS Privacy & Security. Antivirus tools sometimes quarantine large signed installers.

No output on the second screen

Symptom
The projector or TV shows a desktop instead of your slides.

Fix
Confirm the display is extended, not mirrored, then re-select the correct output inside ProPresenter screen configuration. Adapters that go to sleep are a frequent cause on long HDMI runs.

Video stutters or drops frames

Symptom
Playback is smooth on the operator screen but jerky in the room.

Fix
Re-encode clips to a supported codec at a sensible bitrate, move media to fast internal storage, close background apps and update your GPU drivers.

Watermark across the output

Symptom
A logo or bar appears over everything the audience sees.

Fix
For a current subscription, sign in inside ProPresenter and confirm an active seat is assigned to this machine. For a legacy licence, confirm registration is active. Then verify the audience output again.
